Does the best before date change after you open it?

I opened chip dip and Ive had it since december BUT on the expirey date it says June 2010 does that date only mean if you havent opened it? Or is it still good now?|||Usually packaging says 'use within so many days of opening.' If it doesn't say that then it should be good|||On many foods, the date will change after opening (once the seal has been broken), and should be consumed quickly, stored in the fridge for a couple days, or frozen. This is for canned, jarred or packaged foods.

Dairy products need to be consumed by the expiration date. If your dip is a fresh dairy product, like sour cream or cream cheese, then it should be good until the expiration date. Many dips are so heavily salted, they last an eternity.

If this was a jarred dip, stored at room temp at the store,...then consume within a few days after opening.|||Yes the date to use by is for B4 opening. Once the air hits the product you need to conscientiously use the product within a reasonable amount of time. Most Dairy products are 7-10 days after opening. Some items will keep and still be fine for consumption longer than that. That all depends of many factors. The temp of your refrigerator is one of those factors.|||It will be good for several more days once opened, but it is unlikely to last until June. Keep sealed between uses, to keep it fresh for as long as possible.|||For most foods, yes. I wouldn't eat that dip.|||yes it will mold after a month later ....
