My daughter is expecting in April and I am flying in for the birth and to help her after she comes home. There is a possibility that they may have to take the baby early. Can I buy a plane ticket ahead of time with an open fly date since I don't know exactly when she'll deliver? Does anyone have any suggestions?|||You can buy an "open" ticket but there is no point in doing so. Open tickets are whatever the full-fare, unrestricted, maximum airfare might be for the route in question.
I recommend you purchase a ticket for the expected dates and tell the ticket agent or travel agent you want a fare that alloows the departure date to be changed for a fee. The fee is usually about $150, which will still be a lot less than paying full-fare.|||if you buy a full Economy (unrestricted) ticket, you can change it free....but that will be the most expensive option. I suggest you evaluate the possibility of early delivery and if it is more likely than not, book accordingly. If you buy cheap ticket and need to change it, you will probably pay at least half the cost of ticket for change fee|||I think they got ride of that option after 9/11. Sorry. But congratulations to your daughter.
