Possible to buy open-date one-way air ticket?
Is it possible to buy airline tickets 1 or 2 months early but without committing to any specific date (open tickets), so that I can lock in a good price now? I won't know the exact date until 1 week before traveling. Thanks.|||You need to fly on the low fare airlines that sell only one way tickets when you fly roundtrip. Southwest Airlines is the biggest one that does that. I think AirTran and a few of the smaller airlines do. Can't mention any more as I don't know where you live. Check with your airport to see who flies out of there. Go to you local area airport website, or your city website to find out who flies out of it. None of the 6 major airlines sell one way.|||Usually, open tickets are sold at published rates since you can use this any time of the year. So if you want a cheaper ticket...fly during the lean season. Usually, promotional tickets are offered during the lean seasons...and to avail these...you usually need to be booked. The price of airline tickets are based on the departure/travel date of the passenger. So if you want it cheap...don't buy an open dated ticket. =)
