If I crack open the pit of a fresh date, will there be an edible nut inside?

There are a few types of fruit, such as apricots, and even cherries, that, when the pit is cracked open, an edible nut is inside. I am wondering if I will find the same inside the pit of a date. Anybody every tried this? I'm also curious if there is an edible nut inside the pit of a mango! Thanks!|||Thats the seed inside the pit. I imagine every variety of fruit would have an edible seed, meaning you can eat it without getting sick. I think its just a matter of how each seed tastes. I don't know if a date seed would be good or not. You can try it, it wouldn't make you sick, maybe it does taste good, who knows.
