Is it possible to buy an open date airline ticket?

I mean a ticket that could be used during an emergency (like the death of a loved one, for instance) when I need to get to a destination right away. Please, serious answers only.|||yes|||I think so.|||yes, i have bought one in the past, but remember, you cant expect a seat on the first flight you want|||no i don't think you can buy an open airline ticket. the only way you would get a ticket like that is if you flew and you took a bump, the airline would give you a free ticket to fly anywhere in the US, and you would have 1 year to use that ticket.
