How can I stop Microsoft office word 2007 from automatically changing the date to today's date in a document?
For example - when I open a document which had the date of when a fax was sent it comes up as today's date, even though it wasn't.
The text is in a table.|||For Word 2007
Right click the date you want to stop updating (Click Edit Field)
In the Field Names column (Click CreateDate)
In the Dates Format column (Click the format you would like)
Thats it (Click OK)
That field will no longer update for that document
Cheers|||It's likely a field...with autodate in it or soemthing. Click on the date, delete it, and make sure there isn't a field there...that should do it.|||You can't fix this for an existing document, but here's how to prevent it from happening in future documents:
The date was inserted with a DATE field, which auto-updates when you open the document. There are two ways to prevent this from happening:
1. Convert the date field to straight text.
2. Disallow updating on the date field.
Here's how I would do these in Word XP (2002).
If you want the date to always be the original date, right after you create a document, click in the Date field and press CTRL-SHIFT-F9. This changes the field to regular text.
If you want the date to still be changeable, but only when you want it to change, do the above but click CTRL-F11 instead. This locks it. You can change it whenever you want to with F9, or right-click/Update Field. You can even unlock the field with CTRL-SHIFT-F11.
Hope that helps.|||there's a macro somewhere doing this which you can disable|||This is a Marco that naming today in that table field. You can click on the tools %26gt; Marco %26gt; find the Marco that contains the date field in the table. Or disable the Marco while loading the document should prevent the date change.|||There are fields you can insert into Word (date, time, etc.) that auto update.
If you have a title say "October 12, 2001 vacation photos" remove the "field" called "date" and put plain text in it's place.
If you are talking about the date you see in Explorer, that is the last opened date and that will update every time you open it.|||Because its been inserted as an automatic field. Click on Insert then to the right of the toolbar area you will find the Date and Time, click on that and untick the update automatically option.
