MS Word 2003 Changes old dates to current date when I open documents?

Every time I open an older document, say from 01/02/2005, and if it has the date written in it at the top, it changes it to the current date, such as 03/27/2008, every time I open it.

How do I get rid of this automatic feature?|||That's an automatic date field. They're handy in letterhead templates, where you usually want the current date for every new letter you start.

It's hard to open a file with one and retain the original date, but here's how to make it so new files will have the current date in a fixed format (won't change the next time they're opened).

1. Click in the date.

2. Press CTRL/SHIFT/F9.

That will convert that date to normal text so it won't change the next time.

Hope that helps.
